The Bedford u3a Guitar Group has been in existence for almost three years and meets every Wednesday throughout the year at Putnoe Heights Church. Currently split onto two acoustic groups, there are currently 22 members of varying abilities – from absolute beginners to former band members – while both groups come together for refreshments and sometimes enjoy a joint jam session. Individual members from either group also perform regularly at Willington and Moggerhanger Folk Clubs plus daytime sessions at The King William IV pub in Kempston and also at Sunray Sessions at Blunham Sports Pavilion.

A group known as ‘The Bedfordians’ also play different charity concerts and will be performing for a third successive year on the Garden Stage at Bedford Fringe Festival on Saturday 25 July 2026. Since Christmas they have raised around £700 for various charities including Meningitis, Parkinson’s, Pancreatic Cancer and HopeWorks, Bedford’s homeless charity. There's also a sub-group know as the ‘Lyric Lab’ whose five members meet on a monthly basis, writing and composing songs, some of which are now available on CDs, downloads or vinyl from the likes of Amazon or Spotify.

Guitar Group 2 will be playing at the Quarry Theatre at the BedFringe Festival in July 2025
