Bedford u3a Handbell Ringers celebrate the 40th Anniversary of u3a
U3a handbell groups from the East of England joined forces to celebrate our 40th anniversary by holding a mini rally in Ickleton Village Hall.
We started the rally by playing a rousing Cwm Rhondda by John Hughes and arranged by Sandra Winter and this was followed by Castle Suite, an original composition by Angela Jones.
By popular request we then rang Vasylyna’s Tears written by US composer Don R Edwards. This is a beautiful and moving piece which was written in 2016 in honour of the Ukrainian people and their continued struggle for freedom; even more relevant today.
Following a break for the obligatory tea, cakes and lots of chat, we then played two more pieces – the Bedford Brother’s arrangement of Crimond & Now is the Hour and finished by playing the Ukrainian National Anthem.
The afternoon was a great success. Some learnt new handbell techniques, others took the opportunity to try hand chimes for the first time and everyone enjoyed the experience of playing with a larger group of ringers.
