Railway Modelling

Status:Active, open to new members
Coordinator:
When: Monthly on Monday afternoons 1:00 pm
Usually 4th Monday of Month
Venue: Members’ Home

You may attend any active group once as a visitor, if you contact the group coordinator first, but to continue you have to become a member of Bedford u3a.

Usually 4th Monday of the month at 1pm for the main model building session and other dates in the evening for building and detailing.

We are a small group, currently 10 members, who meet once or twice a month to develop our railway modelling skills by trying new techniques and learning from each other. The group also provides a resource for assistance with our own model railway projects.

Our aim is to collectively build a model railway, typically using second hand items from our respective junk boxes, to practice and share our skills and create a finished model. We then aim to exhibit the model to the general public.

Our current model (Middleton) depicts a small West Country fishing village. The track, buildings and trains are over 40 years old, donated by u3a members clearing their attic. We customise the buildings and add extra detailing to turn them into something unique.

We are now planning an extension to the village and quayside.

There is still plenty to do, so we welcome new members, no experience necessary.
